Salman Rushdie, Out and About

In the wake of Ayatollah Khomeini's infamous death sentence, Salman Rushdie gained international renown as a champion of free speech and a challenger of fundamentalist hegemony. Among the virtues shrouded by the author's sudden iconic status, however, were a relentless sense of humor and a developing body of fiction virtually unrivaled among contemporary writers.
